Bpf calls for changes to property management
The British Property Federation (BPF) has announced that it believes the country can be helped out of the current property standstill through new and bigger rental management organisations. Large brands which both develop and manage rental properties could provide Britons with more choice and more affordable housing to counteract the paralysis currently experienced in the property market, the BPF has suggested. Ian Fletcher, BPF residential director, argued: "With the average age of first-time buyers now 34, it's no wonder that more households have found a new home in the private rented market since 2000 than all other tenures put together. "There is significant demand for renting, both now and for the foreseeable future. If the forthcoming housing reform green paper focuses too much on killing off supply from a few bad landlords and not enough on how it is going to incentivise investment to meet future demand for rented homes, it will be judged as a missed opportunity." Those currently waiting for the market to improve may well agree, as they wait in unattractive or potentially badly-managed rental accommodation. Anybody renting a small home could make use of safe storage until the market housing becomes more attractive to those looking to buy.
