Jas worldwide selects mimosa nearpoint for rapid information discovery retention and protection of

Mimosa Systems, a leader in Live Content Archiving solutions, today announced that JAS Worldwide, a leader in the freight forwarding market, has selected the next-generation Mimosa NearPoint(TM) content archiving solution for rapid information discovery, retention, protection, and recovery of the company's vital email data.

With its global network of approximately 250 offices and agents in more than 100 countries, JAS delivers transportation and logistics services to the world. Major market segments the company supports include retail and fashion, automotive, food and beverage, gas and energy and manufacturing. Through its online tracking and tracing application, JAS provides customers with shipment documentation, door-to-door visibility and data extraction capabilities.

"We have a global IT Infrastructure, so email runs this company, from shipping, to tracking to fulfillment. If we lose email, the company would shut down and that just can't happen," said, Joseph Kim, systems engineer for JAS Worldwide.

The company has been experiencing a 20 to 25 percent increase in email volume year over year. With no retention policies in place, JAS was keeping all files, in order to ensure compliance with Customs regulations and mandates from the Transportation Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security.

"The growth in volume of PST files is a huge issue across our network, with 10-15 gigabytes of PST files per user. Management of these files is time-consuming and it's a huge administrative burden for us. We need to centralize the storage to reduce complexity and management costs," said Kim.

Like many organizations, JAS has attempted to deal with its email management problem by outsourcing its Exchange server management to a hosting provider. According to Kim, "Outsourcing became too complex and costly with too many layers, so we wanted to bring everything back in-house."

In addition, disaster recovery functionality was critical to JAS, and was a key requirement for selecting an archiving solution for the company. "Mimosa provides DR and Exchange backup right out of the box," said Kim. "This is as efficient as it gets and it will help me sleep better at night knowing that we will have an added layer of protection for the company."
